Israel’s future is guaranteed by gutsy and patriotic teens, soldiers, and students. They are buoyant and brave and confident in Israel's ability to overcome adversity. Pay no attention to the “Dichonistim” movement, the “Depressive” lobby -- a privileged class of older journalists and veteran “experts” that gloomily dominate the airwaves with stale, defeatist thinking.
Israeli leaders have no mandate to scale-back the assault on Hamas. In memory of my beloved young friend, the brave Israeli soldier and singer-scholar of a soul, Yonadav Levenstein, may the Heavens avenge his death.
Friends of Israel must have a clear picture of how battered Israelis are, how infuriated they are, and how resilient they are! Friends of Israel around the world ought to be similarly infuriated and motivated to stand strong; to build for themselves abundant reserves of spiritual and social stamina for the long road ahead, alongside the stamina of Israelis.
One can elevate the soul, celebrate modern Israel, and defy Israel’s adversaries by drinking the fine wines of Israel. “There is no greater revealed sign of redemption than the agricultural re-blooming of the Land of Israel.”
Rabbi Gold, who passed away this week at 88, was known for feisty and infectious Zionist passion and for biting witticism. He understood God’s love for all Jews in absolute terms (which he sought to emulate absolutely), and he understood God’s grant of the Land of Israel to the Jewish People in absolute terms, in a totality wrapped with kedusha, holiness. These are not gifts that one can simply fritter away.
